My story:
Someone asked me "why do you do what you do?" 💡
I’m passionate about helping women achieve what's been placed in their hearts.
I was told I “couldn’t”.
There were a lot of things I was told I couldn’t do.
Growing up I heard things like, “girls don’t go to college”, “you’re just going to get married”, “you won’t follow through” and none of those felt right to me but when I looked around at the people around me, I saw it. Girls didn’t go to college, they were all getting married and nobody was allowed to dream.
I love my family but I wondered if I was born into the wrong one.
Looking back, life for me as a child was really amazing. I had a teacher that saw me. Not just visually seeing me but knew what I needed. She encouraged me to do more and I did and it was the first time that I felt a level of success that drove me to work just a little harder.
Then high school hit and there was another teacher that was strategically placed in my life. This time, he could see that my religious background was not good for me. He prayed for many years for me and left the results with God.
I’m not talking about a relationship with Jesus but religion that was based on rules. The life of adulthood that was presented to me was sad and oppressive. But it was all I knew. So I tried to fit in and live by all the rules. I was young and it was truly all that I knew.
I got married, had my first child at nineteen years old and had three children by the time I was twenty-three. At about that time, I discovered books that I had never read before. Books that we now call self help books.
Through these books I discovered:
Oppression wasn’t for me.
Freedom IS for me.
Being spoon fed ideas wasn’t for me.
Learning IS for me.
Being silent wasn’t for me.
Using my voice IS for me.
I had dreams.
I had gifts and talents.
I could make my own choices.
I made a decision to go to college. I even had a family member tell me that I “couldn’t” . That lit a fire in me because I needed to prove to myself that I no longer answered to the people who told me that I couldn't do something.
The fire that was lit just propelled me to be at peace with who I am and let go of all the negative thoughts and rules that once was held over me.
My kids were 5, 3 and 18 months old when I started college. It wasn’t the most smooth path for us but I never quit.
Fast Forward and Skipping some really messy stuff, I want to help women who have an idea or a dream and want to know how to actually start doing what they were made to do.
